Columbus, you break my heart

I’m definitely not feeling you Columbus, so called Greatest City of All. First you give me a parking ticket. Then you raise your income tax by 0.5%. I live in Dublin, so I couldn’t vote. But for some reason, my place of employment falls just within your borders. By maybe 200 yards. So lucky me, I get to pay that extra tax and I had no say.

But I do have a say with my wallet. So forgive me if I don’t experience you for a while. [Although I do love the organization and the people I just linked to, hence the link love :) ]

Listen. I’m not going to boycott you. I’ll still visit and spend money. But given a choice between spending money in Dublin or the other suburbs and you, I’ll go with the suburbs. Yea, you’ve got some cool areas with cool restaurants.

But, now if I want my indie restaurant fix, I’ll go to places like Tucci’s, Oscar’s, Brazenhead, Dublin Village Tavern, Matt the Miller’s Tavern, J Lui’s and others in Dublin. Or maybe I’ll head over to Reynoldsburg at the suggestion of Tom Rockhold and go to Scali’s or El Portal.

Got a favorite independent restaurant that’s NOT within the Columbus city borders? Leave a comment here and join me in my non-boycott of Columbus. Support Columbus suburb businesses!

playboy-magazine-coverDispatch rant coming.

Seriously, the main reason I subscribe to the Dispatch is to get the coupons in the Sunday paper. One thing that has always bothered me is that they don’t distribute coupons on holiday weekends. Today is no different. No coupons today because of President’s Day. Really Dispatch? President’s Day? I’m surprised you had coupons for Groudhog’s Day weekend.

Step it up man.

You are losing sales on these coupon-less weekends. I just heard about a guy that BUYS 5 Sunday papers just to get coupons for his five kids. And don’t you want to help your readers save money? I almost titled this post with “Dispatch Sales Drops While Increasing Grocery Bill For Already Strapped Readers“. That’s just not the PR you want.

Oh, while I’m ranting. Why the heck is the Business section on the back page of the Sports section during the week. It just screams “Columbus is not serious about business”. (HT @NickSeguin).
