I love looking at the incoming links for the270. Recently I noticed that a visitor to my site was searching for Columbus Sex Clubs on Google, and the270 was the 24th ranked site. Maybe, just maybe, the270 will rise to number 1 with this bit of link bait post.

One can only dream.

So who exactly is the number 1 website for Columbus Sex Clubs? Well, it’s an actual swing club. Or maybe I should say a “lifestyle club”. It’s Club Princeton. Wow. Didn’t know we had one of those in Columbus. I guess Columbus really is a “big” city.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. There are a couple of reasons for that, but recently it was because I was on vacation. Which leads me to the topic of this post.

The Dublin Police Department has a great program called House Watch. Sign up online and the Dublin Police Department will watch your house while you are away.

And they really, really do it! We had a pet sitter watch our dogs and one day she accidently left the back door unlocked. That night, the Dublin Police called our local contact to tell them the back door was unlocked. This is proof that the Dublin Police does not merely do a drive by. They actually get out of the cruizer and inspect your property. They also do it more than once a day. We came home early because of Tropical Storm Fay. Before I had a chance to cancel the House Watch, an officer stopped by the house to inspect my property. I went out to talk to the officer and explained that we got home early. He told me that he would cancel the watch so that the second shift officer won’t stop by later in the day.

I wonder if any other Columbus suburbs have this service. If they don’t, I recommend you contact your local police department and request that they start one.

Dublin FTW!

Last month, two tech related drinking events debuted in Columbus just one day apart. Startup Drinks had about 25 people show up. IT Martini however had over 200 people attend. By all accounts, both events were a success. Startup Drinks was promoted purly by blogging and word of mouth. I’m hoping that cSUDs dos (as it’s now dubbed, e.g. Columbus Startup Drinks) will have more folks given more awareness and the fact that I announced it to the people at Startup Weekend Columbus. IT Martini however, seemed to have more corporate support, and was pushed by TechColumbus and perhaps corporate sponsors. There is room for both Startup Drinks and IT Martini in Columbus. I am however a bit disappointed that IT Martini sees fit to charge $25 to attend its event. You have some sponsors. Aren’t they helping pay freight? Why not let folks meet for free. I asked the question of the IT Martini folks, and they responded:

To answer Alvin’s question above: there are two simple reasons why IT Martini Hour isn’t free to the public. First off, there are costs that need to be covered! Secondly, the event is about more than a ‘good time’, it’s about IT Professional development. Keeping the general public at bay provides an IT Martini Hour experience that’s focused exclusively on IT Professionals. And keep in mind, we work hard with our IT Community Partners to make the event low cost, and free, for as many IT Professionals as possible.

Fair enough. But I think I’ll pass on IT Martini as long as it continues to charge. Rather, I’ll go to Startup Drinks.

And now back to my rabble rouser self.

We invited the Mayor and City Counsel to just pop on in to Startup Weekend so that they can see firsthand the grassroots entrepreneurial energy and excitement that we’re building in Columbus. But we didn’t hear back from them. Nor did they show up.

I consider it a blown opportunity for them. Aren’t they the ones promoting and pushing the 315 Research + Technology Corridor in Columbus. What a better way to validate what they are promoting. Oh well. Their loss.

And how can they make it up to me? And yes, it’s all about me ;-p. Well, they can talk to some of the Startup Weekend Columbus participants by going to the next Startup Drinks, which is 8/6 at the Elevator.

There. That should about meet this month’s quota of bridge burning. But in all seriousness, I was disappointed that none of them made an effort to see what was happening. I still like them and hope they do come out to Startup Drinks.

Cheers all!

UPDATE: A fair and valid response from someone connected to the Mayor:

I don’t mind you stirring things up, but making it sound like we blew you off when we didn’t get a proper, timely invite is a tad insulting to all the hard work the Mayor and our team are doing to build up Columbus with folks like you. We don’t mind valid criticism on issues, but I’m disappointed in this post. I wish it was as easy as you make it seem to drop everything and go to a cool event.

Very sorry to insult. Again, that wasn’t my intent. It did sound like it though. One of these days, I’m going to have to write a post explaining to folks that this is my blog where I express opinions rightly or wrongly. I do try to do so to stir things up to somehow make Columbus a better place to live. As for those affected by collateral damage in my ramblings, please leave a comment and lets discuss. Hope I didn’t burn too many bridges.
