The Grandview Art Hop is yet another event with the name Hop. Again, it’s probably a cool event, but let’s stop the proliferation of naming events Hops.

I’m not going to opine about the trademark issues, but have you noticed that there are more than a couple events in Columbus using the word “hop” in their names? We all know about the wildly popular Gallery Hop, the once a month event held in the Short North where people hop from one gallery to the next. Hence the name. That’s the original hop. And I have no beef with them.
But, why does the Condo Hop, the Campus Hop, and the City Hop have to use the term hop? It strikes me as me-tooism by the organizers. As in, “you liked the Gallery Hop, now try the [insert name here] Hop.” Don’t we have a lot of marketing and branding brains in Columbus? Can’t we come up with a more original and distinctive name for these various events?
Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not knocking these or other similar type events. I’m just saying, lets just try to name the events without the word hop.
