Mmmmm, honey.

Do you love honey? Well, then maybe the Lithopolis Honeyfest is for you. On September 11, 2010 from 10-6, honey lovers will gather on the grounds of The Wagnalls Memorial at 150 E Columbus St, Lithopolis OH 43136 for “a full day of live entertainment, juried arts, kids crafts in the Busy Beehive, photography contest, Honey Cook-Off and sale, bee beards, honey, honey tasting, honey extraction, beekeepers, hive products, observation hives, educational displays, and delicious honey made food.”

Next Wednesday (June 9) will be the Ohio Growth Summit. The OGS, hosted by the Small Business Center at Columbus State, brings together entrepreneurs and accomplished business owners who provide insight, tactics and resources you can use to grow your business. It runs from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and will feature Carrie Wilkerson, The Barefoot Executive, as the Keynote Speaker.

You know I just had to take a picture of these

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to be invited and attend Longaberger’s first blogger’s event. At the event, they had us make a basket and gave us a tour of the basket making facility and the Longaberger Homestead shops.

Longaberger Homestead is located just east of Newark, Ohio in the country town of Frazeysburg, Ohio (5563 Raiders Road, Frazeysburg, OH 43822). It’s only an 30 to 45 minute drive from Columbus, but well worth the trip. If you’re looking for something fun and unique, you might want to check out Longaberger’s Heritage Days this September 11 and 12. The schedule of events looks exciting and you can even make a basket for the special price of $39.95.

Or, if baskets are not your thing, you can drop off your loved one with a wad of cash and go play golf at the renowned Longaberger Golf Club. I’ve played it once and it is amazing.

Good thing I didn’t say I was boycotting Columbus. Otherwise I couldn’t go to the Cornhole All-Stars Launch Party tomorrow night.

As you can see above, Cornhole All-Stars is a game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It launched last Friday on iTunes by Columbus company JUFTi. I downloaded it the day it became available and it rocks. Oh, and I’ve gotten to be quite good at it. Just check out this screen shot of my perfect game.

So I’ll be there tomorrow to give props to Jon Myers and crew for Cornhole All-Stars. Columbus definitely needs more launch parties. The last one I went to was for Sandbox Columbus. That one freaking rocked.

One final thought. Who the hell came up with the name Cornhole? They must have been Beavis and Butthead fans.

As you know, I organize, with the help of many people, some tech events around Columbus, like Startup Weekend, Ignite, and WordCamp. Along with my many co-organizers, these events cannot be done without the help of some awesome sponsors and venues. I’ve found that there’s a lot of people that want to sponsor and support tech events in Columbus. But you have to find them.

And other than Startup Weekend, the big institutional investors seem reluctant to sponsor small niche tech events like the ones I put on. As a thank you to my sponsors, I’d like to give back by helping tech events in Columbus find sponsors. Little sponsors. You and I. The ones with “personal brands”.

I want to put together a syndicate of people that give a little to pool their money for sponsorship. The event will have a link to a landing page with all of the individual sponsors and we’ll also set up individual pages so you can get some Google juice.

What is Ignite? It’s a public speaking event where the speakers get 5 minutes to talk about something interesting. They get 20 slides, which automatically advance every 15 seconds. And the event is going on all over this planet. Columbus is getting its first one at the Columbus Robotics Society located at 1481 Showcase Dr., Columbus, OH 43212. It’s November 13 from 6 – 9ish. And it’s free.

The Easyriders Bike Show is coming to Columbus on February 15-17 at the Veterans Memorial. If you go, I promise you that you’ll meet lovely ladies like the ones on the right.

Continuing on with the “Taste of …” themed posts (Taste of UA, Taste of Grandview Heights), the 10th Annual Taste of Gahanna will be held on October 11 from 6 – 9 pm. The event will be held in the “Grand Ballroom” at the Aladdin Shrine Complex.
