Hey Nate. I wasn't really commenting on Google asking for volunteers. I was pointing out that folks didn't like TechColumbus' effort. My premise is why wait for TechColumbus to lead the effort? They're good at what they do, but this called for an effort completely different. Take a look at what folks in Baltimore did. I think we have a lot of the same demographics and resources as they do. But they tailored the message in a creative way. TechColumbus just put forth the standard corporate marketing spiel that we use to market Columbus. No real customization. Our tech and creative folks could have done a bang up job if they took the initiative (even without pay). Plus, I couldn't think of a better way to promote yourself if Google picked Columbus because of your efforts.

I don't know. I find it a bit ironic that Google, the current powerhouse of the entire world business culture, needs to ask for volunteers for anything at all. But that's just me... ; )
