This is a quick and inexpensive fix for a small brick or block chimney. Repairing the joints in between the bricks is another option, but this particular chimney was not in any danger of collapse so a nice coat of a weather tight sealer will do the trick just fine. Make sure you brush on the paint lapping up and filling in all the inside corners, joints and pits with the sealer making a solid seal.
