I found through Craigslist the book Their Town: Paradise Lost. It is written by Charles (Chuck) Adrian. This is what the book’s website has to say:

The hard truth is that one reason urban revitalization efforts fail in America is because there are black politicians and black leaders who would rather see urban property decay than suffer the political embarrassment of having it in white hands; or even worse-watching a white man successfully revitalize a black community.

Charles Adrian, because of his business interests and passions, unknowingly, would take the City of Columbus politically, to a place it never imagined it would have to go. Adrian would compel a major social and political confrontation with no less than the first black mayor of the City of Columbus. Charles Adrian, “Mr. White Suburbia” would compel the City of Columbus, Ohio, to define the color of justice. Adrian would discover, to his suprise (sic), and to the dishonor of a community that truly is reflective of the true American Spirit, that the color of justice is BLACK in Columbus, Ohio.

Well, that’s certainly an interesting theory. Is it true? Do you believe it? Or is Adrian a disgruntled developer that has an axe to grind with Coleman and Columbus? I don’t know. I’ve never heard of the guy. And I don’t know what his dealings are with Coleman and Columbus. But somehow I don’t think “a successful and well respected developer and business owner in Columbus” (as stated in the About the Author page) would write such a book if there was no axe.

Charles and Mayor Coleman: please feel free to respond. I’d like to hear both your sides.

UPDATE: And to be fair to Mr. Adrian, he’s never heard of me.
